Eugene Murphy
CHARLESTON — Eugene Leland "Murph" Murphy, 77, of Charleston died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 23, 1996) at his residence.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Boaz officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Valeria, Ky., the son of James and Pearl Swango Murphy. He married Ala Weiser in 1951; she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sandra Ryan of Charleston; four sisters, Aulsa Alexander of Mattoon, Ginny McConnell of Phoenix, Ariz., Ruby Edwards of Port White, Fla., and Lula Bancroft Pompton of Plains, N.J.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Mr. Murphy was a former employee of the Brown Shoe Company of Charleston, had farmed for many years and worked until retirement at the Standard Station in Charleston. He was a Navy SeaBees veteran of WW II.
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association.
