Hinrich Braren was born on the Island of Fohr in November, 1822 to Friedrich Braren and Christina Willems Braren. He emigrated to California and was later joined by his wife and children. They settled in San Francisco in the Mission District. At some point, the spelling of the family's name changed from Braren to Brarens.
Henry Brarens died in 1880. He was buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery on May 16 1888. In the 1930's the cemetery was closed and most of the burials moved to a communal grave at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma. Though Woodlawn does not have Mr. Brarens listed in their records, it is possible that his remains are there.
