Obituary for Agnes Johnson
Agnes Johnson was born April 17, 1922 in Buena Vista, Georgia to Eunice Minter Sales and Major Clem Sales. She was the third daughter of eight children. She was a happy child growing up. Agnes attended the Public Schools in Georgia.

She married James W. Johnson on May 21, 1939 and eventually moved to New York. James and Agnes shared 49 wonderful years together. Agnes worked for many years as a shoemaker and then made the motherly choice to stay at home and raise her four sons. She was an Eastern Star and a devoted Christian.

She was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir and held the position of President of the Senior Choir. She later joined Bethany Baptist Church. She was a pillar of strength to her family, a beloved friend to many, a respected figure in her community and known to all affectionately as "Mom." Agnes helped everyone. Her door was always open to family and friends. She was always giving and doing for others. She really enjoyed sitting, socializing and having breakfast and lunch with her fellow seniors at the Rockaway Boulevard Senior Center. Agnes fought the good fight, she has finished the course and she remained faithful to God until the time she departed this life at the age of 89 on November 19, 2011. She was much loved and will be sorely missed.

Preceded her in death: her husband James W. Johnson two sons: William J. Johnson, Ahmad Abdul- Aleem, her sisters and brothers Clem Sales, Mary Grundy, Myra Flunory, Gradie Sales, Major Sales, Eunice Poole, Helen Jordan, and grandson Muhammad Abdul-Aleem.
