Sydnor M. Broadus, 90, formerly of 739 Washington St and Monroe county Civil Defense Director for 10 years, died at 11:20 p.m., Thursday in Memorial Hospital Unit, where he had been for two weeks. He had been in poor health for four years and in Beach Nursing Home since August, 1977.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Saturday in the Earle Little funeral Home, where services will be at 2 pm Sunday. the Rev. Hugh White of St Paul's United Methodist Church, of which he was a member, will officiate. The body will be cremated and the remains interred in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle.
Born July 11, 1890, in Newark, Ohio, he was the son of John and Grace (Sydnor) Broadus. He was married Feb. 10, 1917, to Adeline Kosanke in the Presbyterian Church of
Valparaiso, Ind. She died July 21, 1974.
He cam to Monroe in September, 1926, from Sycamore, Ill., and was employed as secretary-treasurer-comptroller by Detroit Stokers Co, retiring Sept. 30, 1956.
He served on the Monroe County Planning commission and on the Safety and Traffic Committee sponsored by AAA, for about 20 years.
He was a former member of the Rotary Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Dorothy)Nogar Jr. of Monrow and Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Grant of Cloverdale, Ind; a sister, Mrs Francis (Thelma) Atkinson of Redlands, Calif, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to this wife, he was prceded in death by a sister.
Memorials may be made to St Paul's building fund.
