Peter's parents were Samuel Obediah Muncey Jr. (1740-1811) and Agnes Nancy Cravens (1735-1820). Both died in Virginia, but their final resting places are unknown. Peter married first Margaret Martin. He married second Francis Owens Wood in 1802 and they had 5 sons and 5 daughters. He married third Mary (Davenport) Bullock in 1847 and they had two sons.

In 1836 Peter and Frances Muncie came to Clay County from Kentucky, entered government land at $1.25 per acre in Jackson Township. The Muncie family is one of the oldest and most prolific families in Clay County, second only to the McCullough clan, which has about the same sort of history.
