Shirlyn Kay Teater (Lynnie) was the eldest of two daughters born to Shirley May Shelby and James V. Lott. She was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, on March 6, 1945. By the time her younger sister Sharon was born in 1947, the family had moved to San Francisco, California. Her father died at only 27 years of age in 1949; Lynnie was only 4 years old at the time. She was raised in the San Francisco Bay area by her mother and step-father, DeWayne Archer. Her mother and step-father had six more children--four girls and two boys. So, Lynnie was the oldest of eight children.

Her first marriage was to her high school sweetheart, Anthony Vincent. Her second marriage was to C. Andrew Teater. Both marriages ended in divorce. She had one son, Anthony Vincent, who died at birth. Lynnie lived most of her life in San Jose, California. She worked as a waitress for over 40 years before retiring to the Tampa Bay area in Florida.

As the eldest of eight children, she spent most of her life helping and supporting her family. Besides the time she spent with family and friends, Lynnie enjoyed music, reading, gardening, and dogs. She loved driving up to Calistoga in Napa Valley, California, and relaxing in the mud baths and spas. She loved going on cruises and attending concerts.
