Norman Lee Couts, 84, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Schoenbrunn Health Care Center.

Born January 16, 1933 in Dellroy, Ohio he was a son of the late William and Wilna Williams Couts. Norm was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Dora Lee Couts on August 9, 2003; sisters, Pauline Merrick, Doris Couts, Ruth McVann; brothers, Robert and William Couts Jr.

Norm was a 1950 graduate of Strasburg High School, and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Norfolk and Western Railroad and retired from Diebold in Canton. Norm was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, life member of the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion in Strasburg, Army Navy Garrison 1982 in Bolivar, New Philadelphia VFW and the New Philadelphia Elks. He played Center for the 1949 undefeated football team that was inducted into the Strasburg Hall of Fame in 2016. In his spare time, Norm enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards.

He is survived by his children, Linda (George) Salsberry of South Carolina, Aaron (Rita) Couts of Strasburg, Janet Couts of Hilliard; grandchildren, Caleb and Kelsey Couts; step-granddaughter, Emily (T.J.) Salsberry Schramm; great granddaughter, Callie Matthus; brother, W. Dean Couts of Pennsylvania; brother in law, James Penrod of Minnesota and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13 at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Humble officiating. Interment will be at the Grandview Union Cemetery where the Strasburg American Legion will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
