OBITUARY
Maria Catharine (Shultz) Cook was born in Knox Co., Mo., April 1, 1855, and died in her home, six miles south of Edina, June 18, 1899. She was the daughter of Sylvester and Elizabeth J. Shultz who, after coming from Indiana to Missouri, were married in 1849. Their daughter was converted while attending the Baptist College in LaGrange, Mo., in her 17th year; and there she was united with the Baptist church of which she lived a consistent member during the remainder of her life. She afterwards graduated in Chaddock College, Quincy, Ill., in 1882, in the 27th year of her age, and in 1885, April 1, she was married to Tyrone P. Cook when she was just 30 years of age.
She was the mother of three children; two of whom only are now living, her son, Earnest, and her daughter, Mary, who together with their beloved father, lovingly and gratefully remember her Christian wishes, her fruitful life, her noble character, and her untiring devotion to their welfare.
She died the death of the righteous and has gone to receive the righteous reward of her Savior Jesus Christ whom she loved and served as her "wisdom, her righteousness, her sanctification and her redemption." The sermon at her funeral was preached by Rev. T. H. Tatlow on the text, Rom. 8:19. "The earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God." After the sermon her "natural body," attended by her numerous friends, was laid to rest in the Bee Ridge Cemetery. And there she awaits her resurrection in her "spiritual body" then to be "fashioned like unto the glorious body" of her risen Lord. — T. H. T.
