One of 13 children of Michael Daniel Bowers and Angeline McKinney, husband of Martha Adele Pletcher Bowers to whom he was married 56 years. He and Martha were married in Cumberland, Maryland in December of 1916. He was the father of Catherine Hand, Robert William Bowers, Joel Philip Bowers, Betty Nail Hirsch, Michael Grant Bowers and Jane Bricker. He was a brakeman and conductor on the Pittsburgh Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad and lived in Bellwood, Pennsylvania at 609 North Tenth Street which had been his wife's childhood home. Survived by 31 grandchildren. His son, Robert, was killed on North Tuckahoe Street in Bellwood in a traffic accident that Joel witnessed. Joel was returning home from work and seven year old Robert had run to join him.



At seven oclock this morning an alarm trom tbe siren on the public building took tbe firemen to Ninth street, where the roof of the bome of Joel Bowers was a flame, from an overheated flue. Upon their arrival the blaze was quickly conquered.
