Mrs. Maria Abate, 87, of 47 Spring Ave., a Bristol resident most of her life, died yesterday morning at Roger Williams General Hospital, Providence. The late Andrew Abate was her husband.
Born in Furnari, Messina, Italy, a daughter of the late Carlo and Grace (Zorione) Ferrara, she had lived in Bristol from 1911 to 1976, and in Warren until five months ago.
She leaves four sons, Ralph F. Abate of Jacksonville, Fla., Charles Abate of Bristol, Salvatore Abate of Lindenhurst, Long Island, N.J., and Frank A. Abate of Pawtucket; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Dallaire of Warren, Mrs. Grace Proulx of Fall River, Mass., Mrs. Rose Andreozzi, with whom she lived, and Mrs. Frances Coury, also of Barrington; 28 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Saturday in Bristol at 9 a.m. from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, State Street. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
