Mr. Preston was the son of Jacob A. Preston and Caroline Perryman and was born in 1841 at the Oakland homestead, at Perryman, Harford county. After attending St. Timothy's school at Catonsville he came to Baltimore at the age of 21 years and read law with his brother, Mr. J. Alexander Preston. After being admitted to the bar he married Miss Eliza Pue Thomas, daughter of the late Capt. Chas. Thomas, of the U.S. Navy, and niece of former Gov. Philip F. Thomas. Mrs. Preston survives her husband with 7 children, 4 daughters and 3 sons. The daughters are Mrs. R.G. Skeerett, Mrs. Henry J. Carroll, Rita and Ellen. Of the 3 sons Charles Francis is a lieutenant in the Navy, now stationed in Alaska; John F. Preston, Jr., is first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in the Philippines, and Dickinson Rogan is at home, 1122 North Calvert street.
Mr. Preston was an active member of the Md Democratic Association and several times entered the Democratic primaries as candidate for a judgeship.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at old St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church. Rev. Dr. J.S.B. Hodges, rector will conduct the services. The pallbearers will be Messrs. Thomas Poultney, John Milligan, Charles Ridgely, Felix R. Sullivan, Jr., Robert L. Preston and Dr. Charles Shippen.
