Mrs. ELIZA RUDE, died at Stockholm, N.J. December 9, aged 87 years, 3 months and 5 days. Mrs Rude was the daughter of Samuel and Charlotte Keeler and was born at Stockholm, Sept. 4, 1814. At the age of fourteen years, she left her mountain home to work in the bookbindery department of Harper & Brothers, New York. She often related many vivid scenes of her early life in New York, one of them being the "bread riot" during the winter of 1835-36, which she witnessed from the windows of Harpers' printing office, on William street. In the fall of 1838 she returned to her home and was married to Mark D. Edsall in Hamburg. In the spring of 1839 she accompanied her husband to the lake region, as western New York was then called, and settled in the town of Ithaca, at the head of Cayuga Lake. In the spring of 1851, while on a visit to her parents in Stockholm, her husband sickened and died leaving five children, all of whom survive their mother: Henry W. Edsall, of Hamburg; Hattie Ballock, of Columbus, Ohio; Frank Brown (Mrs??), of Stockholm; Joseph Edsall, of Black Hawk, Colo. and Mrs Katie Rude, of McAfee. October 5, 1853, she was married to Issachar Rude, of Hamburg. Two children survive this marriage: Miss Cornelia Rude, of Stockholm, and Mrs. Julia Miller, of Hamburg. Mrs. Rude's mind was clear and active to the hour of her death. Being a reader of wide range, she was well informed on all subjects of interest before the country.
