Colin Bland, Esq. (aka Colonel Colin de Bland), son of Peter Randolph Bland (1781-c 1835) and Susanna R Bacon (1790-after 1865), acquired nearly 1500 acres in land grants in three Texas counties from the Republic of Texas for his service during the Texas War of Independence. President Lamar of the Republic of Texas nominated Colin to serve as Chief Justice of the Republic.
