Chester 'Gene' Mady age 84 of Coon Rapids, formerly of Columbia Heights. Preceded in death by wife, Joanne. Survived by sons, Bret (Mary) and Bart; daughters, Sheryl (Perry) Olson and Kathy (Jon) Ek; 9 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren; sister, Collette "Cookie" (Terry) Knopik. Chester was a 48 year owner of Mady's Bowling Center. He was an inductee in the Mpls USBC Hall of Fame, Past State President of the BPAA and a founder of the Las Vegas style bowling league. Avid traveler and most recently with his friend, Catherine. Visitation Wednesday, December 13, 4-7 PM at Washburn- McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, December 14, 10:30 AM in the Church of the Epiphany, 11001 Hanson Blvd, Coon Rapids. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at church. Interment Epiphany Cemetery. Gene started bowling at the age of 16 and he has been bowling ever since. He has bowled in many leagues over the years including the Minneapolis All Star League, Minneapolis Classic League and the Minneapolis Traveling League. He has participated in 15 ABC National Tournament and many city and state tournaments. Gene has a very distinguished career in the promotion and support of the bowler. He served the YABA for 31 years, the BPA for 30 years and the ABC for 10 years as a league secretary. He served as President the Minneapolis BPA and he also served in that capacity to the State of Minnesota BPA. Gene conceived, created and started the 'Las Vegas style' bowling leagues. He helped start the BVL League Tournament and was Chairman of the North Metro School Team League. Gene was recognized by the BPA with the Pioneer Award for his many years of service. His high single game is 299 at The Bowler in Fargo, North Dakota.
