He served in the Army during the Korean War and respected his opportunity to be a veteran, following the war; he worked nineteen years for Maytag. In 1975, Robert joined Cleveland Police Department as a Patrolman until he retired in 1996 at age sixty five. He loved serving the community and in his words, "If I wrote somebody a ticket, it may have saved a life." "Treat people the way you want to be treated and be nice."
Robert was preceded in death by parents, Clyde Green and Pearl Goforth Green. Infant son, Robert Jeffery Green; brothers and sisters, June Ballew, Alton Green, Rayburn Green, Maggie McHan, Amos Charles Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Reble Merrell Green (married 67 years). Daughters, Wanda Mayfield and husband, Jim, Kathy Hicks and husband, Robbie, Sue Wheeler and husband, Bill; grandchildren: Jeffry Scoggins, Julie Quinn, Kip Hogan, Heather Wheeler, Heath Wheeler, and Matthew Hicks; great-grandchildren: Skylar Scoggins, Brandon Scoggins, Mackenzie Hogan, Kellan Hogan, Devin Howard, Reagan Wheeler, Morgan Howard, Emily Quinn, Ross Wheeler, Charlotte Hogan; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends; special friends, Alvin and Carolyn Howard.
A celebration of his life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Bill Wheeler and Alvin Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. A white dove release ceremony and bagpipes will conclude the service. Pallbearers will be the Cleveland Police Department Honor Guard.
