Gertrude Flagler, beloved wife of the late Holland; mother of Holland J., Allen K. and George S.; grandmother of six and three great-grandchildren; sister of Harold Jones, Ethyl Knapp, Cevrena Fitch. Resting at the Fern Chapel, S. Western avenue, at 100th street from 4 p.m., Wednesday until noon Thursday. Funeral 2 p.m. at Trinity Methodist church, 99th and Winchester. Interment Mount Greenwood. In lieu of flowers contribution of Living Memorial Scholarship fund of Trinity Methodist church.

Services for Mrs. Gertrude Flagler, 82, civic leader and educator, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Trinity Methodist church, 99th street and Winchester avenue.

Mrs. Flagler was a past president of the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers, and was vice president of the Salvation Army board and a member of the auxiliary of Wesley memorial hospital and Mercy center.

Holds Church Posts

She was a past member of local and district boards of the Methodist church's Woman's Society of Christian service and the church's Rock River conference. She also had served on the board of the Chicago Council of Church Women.

Mrs. Flagler served a fiveyear term on the Human Relations commission and had been chairman of the state education committee. She was appointed to both positions by former Illinois Gov. Dwight Green.

In July 1993, she served as a chairman of the Save Our Schools committee, now called the Citizen's School committee, and directed the largest mass meeting ever held in the defense of education, when 25,000 persons packed the Chicago stadium during a crusade for better schools.

Cited for Work

Mrs. Flagler was a finalist, in 1960, in the city-wide awards presented by the Citizens for Greater Chicago committee to persons who had made outstanding contributions in various fields of civic endeavor.

Her husband, Holland, died in February, 1961.

She leaves three sons, Holland J., Allen K., and George S.; two sisters; a brother; six grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
