The 2nd Michigan Infantry Regiment was originally composed of militia units who were ordered to Fort Wayne, near Detroit, where its recruitment was completed and mustered into Federal service on May 25, 1861, with 1013 officers and men on its rolls, making them the first of the three year Regiments to be raised in the State. He also served with Battery K, 3rd U.S. Artillery.
George is found in the US 1870 census of Royal Oak Twp., Michigan. He was a farm laborer. His wife was Harriett E. Lewless, their son was Henry L. All were born in Michigan.
