Obituary for Benjamin "Ben" Lowell Gillham
Benjamin “Ben” Gillham, 79 of Greeley, passed away September 3, 2017 at Pinedale Medical Center in Pinedale, Wyoming. Ben was born May 12, 1938 in Bushland, TX, to M.L. and Bonnie Hazel (Adams) Gillham. Ben married Byra Nickerson on June 22, 1966 in Lakewood CO.

After attending several SDA Academies, Ben went on to Union College in Lincoln, NE, where he met his wife, Byra. They lived 10 years in Denver where he owned and operated Gillham Masonry, Inc. They moved to Greeley in 1975 and spent the next 41 years farming and as well as running his own trucking company, Benco Trucking, Inc. Ben also served as a Whitecoat (medic) in the US Army at Fort Detrick, Maryland from 1963-1965. The Whitecoats program pursued medical research using volunteer enlisted personnel.

Ben attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church where he was very active as Deacon and Elder and served on both the school and church boards.

Ben enjoyed his work, studying and reading about tractors and trucks, and attending farm shows. He loved to help people out behind the scenes and is noted for his independent nature and adventurous spirit. He loved talking with and visiting his children, grandchildren and family. Ben had a wonderful sense of humor and an optimistic outlook on life.

He is survived by his wife Byra Gillham; son, Brent L. (Theresa) Gillham; daughter Brenda L. (Brad) Carnahan; brothers Stanley Gillham and Chaney (Corrine) Gillham; sisters Olla Gillham, Laura Edwards and Esther (Charles) Menard; and by his grandchildren, McKenna, Tate, Kellum, and McKaul Carnahan.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Edith, Memory, Chapman, Daniel, Mary, Donald and John Gillham.

A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Greeley Seventh Day Adventist Church with burial to follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Akron Cemetery in Akron, CO.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Adventist Christian School in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631.
