IN CLOUD OF STEAM
Detroit Man So Badly Scalded That He Will Die
DETROIT - While cleaning a boiler at the American Car and Foundry company's plant at 919 Clark Avenue yesterday morning, Carl W. Kiphut, aged 60, living at 202 Morrell Street, was so badly scalded that he will probably die. Kiphut was enveloped in a cloud of steam, and before he could be rescued his body was almost cooked. He was taken to Grace Hospital.
The boiler had been cooled during the night and about 8:30 yesterday morning, Kiphut went inside to clean it and make necessary repairs. An hour later one of the employees, not knowing that the old man was inside, turned on the steam. A terrible shriek followed, and the man realized his mistake. He shut off the steam and, with others, soon got Kiphut out of the boiler.
