Vernon Richard Lerew, 88, died on February 5, 2018 at Senior Commons at Powder Mill. He was the husband of the late Marilyn L. (Stead) Lerew. Born in Dillsburg on May 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Frank R. Lerew, Sr. and the late Clara Mae (Miller) Lerew.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Vernon was the owner of Lerew's Furniture Store and was also an auctioneer.
He was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, Dillsburg, and attended to Decatur, IN auctioneer school.
He is survived by two sons, Randy Lerew and wife, Toni of York, Troy Lerew and wife, Lori of York; a daughter, Sharon Clayton of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Erdean McClure of Dillsburg.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with Pastor Donna L. Hildebrand officiating. A visitation will be held Friday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, 450 Chestnut Grove Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
