David William Parks was born to David William Parks (b 1865) and Phoebe Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Spencer (1867-1905/1910). He was the 8th of 10 children. His siblings were: Baby (1886-1886), Mary Ester 'Nanny' (1888-1964), Nellie Jane (1890-1910), Hester Cook (1890-1949), Robert "Bert" ( b 1893), Helen Mae (1897-1955), Hazel Isabelle (1897-1994), Jennie (1903-1910), and Cora (b 1904). On the 14th of January 1923 he married Leila Ruth Cornine (1904-1988) and together they had 6 children: Everitt (1923-2016), David William 'Junior' (1925-1989), Alice Elizabeth 'Sister' (1933-2013), Donald Arthur (1934-1999), Florence May (b 1938), and Kenneth Alan (1940-2004). He was working as a farmer in 1918 on property owned by William Whitesell in Great Meadows, Warren, New Jersey, when he enlisted in the military that same year. He worked for many years at Van Ness Lumberyard in Pequannock, New Jersey. To many in the family, he was known as Pap or Pappy.
