Robert Belgarde Is Killed By Car

Nels Ford of Helena Is Injured

Missoula, Oct. 6 - (AP) - Details of a four-way motor accident which claimed the life of Robert Belgarde of Helena on the highway near Bonita Saturday night will be unfolded to a coroner's jury here Monday evening, county authorities announced today.

Belgarde, with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Ford and their two children, all of Helena, were driving to Missoula to visit friends when the first of a series of mishaps which resulted in Belgarde's death, occured. Noticing a stalled truck partially in the ditch at the side of the road, the two men got out to investigate. As they were standing by the truck, an east-bound car, said by officers to have been driven by E. R. McNair of Missoula, struck the front of the truck and was slightly damaged.

Fatally Hurt

It was pushed onto the highway and the driver of another west-bound machine, in passing the McNair car struck Ford and Belgarde, knocking the former clear and pinning Belgarde against the truck.

Belgarde suffered a broken back and two broken legs. Ford's injuries consisted of a broken shoulder and fractured hip. Both men were brought to Missoula by Mrs. Ford, Belgarde dying on the way to the city. His death was not discovered until the arrival of the party here.

Robert Belgarde, a member of the family of Belgardes that resides in the Indian colony on the north side of the city, had been employed as a truck driver for the Western Clay Manufacturing company. For the last few months he had been stationed at Warm Springs most of the time hauling brick for the new buildings being erected at the state hospital. He is survived by his mother and several brothers and sisters residing both in Helena and Missoula.

Last rites for Robert Belgarde, who was killed in an automobile accident near Missoula Saturday will be held at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. The rosary will be said at 8 o'clock this evening in the Opp and Conrad Chapel.
