Agnes Chancy, who for 20 years served as grand deputy of the International Rainbow for Girls, died Wednesday in a local hospital at the age of 70. A native of Kansas, Mrs Chaney had been a California resident for the past 50 years and had spent the last 37 of those years in Santa Cruz. In 1977 she was honored upon her retirement as a Rainbow grand deputy. She had maintained jurisdiction over the Santa Cruz, Cabrillo and Watsonville assemblies, and at one time over the Gilroy and Morgan Hill districts. Mrs. Chaney was also past worthy matron of Santa Cruz Chapter No 273 Order of the Eastern Star and past president of Electa Circle. Survivors include her husband, John V. Chaney of Santa Cruz; two nephews, Don Patters of Livermore and Al Patters of Hayward and a niece, Marion Marcus of San Francisco. The funeral service will take place at Smith and Sons Chapel of the Four Seasons, 1050 Cayuga St., on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the Order of the Eastern Star officiating. Friends may visit the mortuary tonight from 5-9 p.m. Burial will take place at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
