Lucille Bassham Saunders was born May 13, 1920 to the late Archie and Icie Bassham in Elkmont, Alabama. She transitioned to her eternal home on Monday, February 19, 2018. Lucille confessed Christ as her Savior and joined the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She married William Andrew White and to this union two children were born; Faye Bond and Lawrence White who have both predeceased her in death. Later in life she married James Saunders who also predeceased her.

Lucille attended the public schools in Elkmont, Alabama. She began her employment as a nanny / caregiver in Alabama at the young age of 14. She later relocated to Richmond, Indiana. She retired from Chester Heights’ maintenance department where she was a very devoted employee. One thing Lucille loved to do was sell her Avon and she was a very good Avon representative.
She has lived for many generations and seen a great many things, she loved to socialize and be with her family. She also enjoyed baking zucchini bread, fudge, and baking the best sweet potatoes pie in the state of Indiana (Patti LaBelle has nothing on those pies). She was also known for her tasty chili.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert Bassham, Buster Bassham,and sisters Loraine Wright, Emma Bassham, and Roberta Miller, and nephew Jimmy Majors.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: sister-in-law Lucinda Bassham of Elkmont, Alabama. Two grandchildren: Charmelita Goens Archer (Barry) of Durham, North Carolina and Larry Goens of Indianapolis, Indiana. Two nieces:Ursula Bassham Madry (Eric) and Dr. Duana Bassham Shears both of Athens, Alabama. Great-niece Ronda Majors Pearson (Douglas) of Memphis, Tennessee. Also, beloved great-grandchildren Sahira, Iman, Victoria, Amira, Barry II, and Nadia Archer and a sweet great-great granddaughter Erin Hutchison of Durham,NC. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Services for Lucille will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday February 26, 2018 at Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Burial will follow in Earlham Cemetery. Rev. Martel Winburn will officiate
