Freddie Louis Barnwell , 76, of 2471 Heritage Hwy., Bamberg, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Bamberg. Burial will follow in the Bamberg Memory Gardens with military honors.

Mr. Barnwell was born Dec. 11, 1940, to the late William Henry and Netha Walker Barnwell in Bamberg. He was educated in the public schools of Bamberg County and went on to attend Claflin College, Orangeburg. After serving his country with honors during the Vietnam War, he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. Freddie worked for many years at the Westinghouse Savannah River Plant, from where he retired. At an early age he joined the Claflin United Methodist Church, Bamberg, where he remained a member until his passing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Catherine Nimmons Barnwell ; two sons Keith and Terrell Barnwell of Bamberg; one daughter, Valerie (Greg) Jones of Bamberg; three grandchildren which he gave special names, DeAndre (Grasshopper), Anthony (GEICO) and Aubrey (Fuzzy), all of Bamberg; one sister Bernice (Clyde) Manigo of Columbia; one brother Patrick (Monica) Barnwell of Augusta, Georgia; loving aunt Uralee Dowling of Bamberg.

The Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg will be in charge of the services.

Friends may call at the residence or at the Mount Zion Fellowship Hall after the burial.
