Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was born in Ireland and entered the Union Army in Slatersville, Providence County, Rhode Island. He served as Private in Company E, 4th Rhode Island Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for action on July 30, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. He died in Elizabeth City, Virginia. His citation reads "Bore off the regimental colors after the color sergeant had been wounded and the color corporal bearing the colors killed, thereby saving the colors from capture."
