Esther Lena Messner early 1940s. Mom had this portrait taken for her mother, as she was leaving Michigan for California. She saw her mother twice again: once when my brother & I were toddlers, and again to introduce my baby sister, when Grandmother Hazel was at the end of her life

Taken from a very large group photo, this is of Mom and my Uncle Clifford. They, along with their mom and their Aunt Agnes, were members of the Direct Credits Society during the early to mid 1930's

Esther Lena Messner, age 17. Graduation day, Jackson Michigan. I love this picture of my mom. I think she has the sweetest smile. Her mother made the dress. The material was a thin voile. During the graduation exercises, Mom remembered that she got a sunburn, even throuth the dress material. She had very pale beautiful skin, fine-textured even in her old age.

Mom holding me, & Aunt Pearl with my brother, Jim standing in front. This was taken when we lived in the logging camp in Challenge, California, August 1948. Aunt Pearl has her cafe uniform and apron on. She was either on her way to work or coming back from.
