Berta was born on August 31, 1930 in Cologne, Germany. She and her older siblings Dora, Klara and Norbert were German Jewish refugee children that lived in an orphanage for Jewish children in Den Haag, Netherlands. On March 6, 1943, the Nazis shut down the orphanage and abducted every child and staff member. Most were sent to Sobibor and murdered upon arrival. Berta and her older sisters were killed at Sobibor on July 23, 1943. Norbert was sent to Auschwitz and killed the next year. Berta was just 12 years old when she died.
