Dean A. Saylor, Sr.

June 1, 1945 - February 22, 2018

Chanceford Township, Dean A. Saylor, Sr., 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22 at the York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Morthland) Saylor.

Mr. Saylor was born in York on June 1, 1945 and was the son of the late Howard H. and Helen K. (Hershey) Saylor and the stepson of the late Luther Saylor.

Dean worked for Pfaltzgraff for over 32 years and for J & K Salvage for 10 years. He proudly served more than 35 years in fire service and was a life member of many local stations including, Grantley and Victory Fire Company, Union Station No. 3 York City, North York Station No. 25, and Goodwill Station No. 5. He was also a member of Goodwill Station No. 19, York Township, and both the York City Fire Police Association and York County Fire Police Association. Dean enjoyed hunting, mowing with his riding tractor and spending time in the outdoors in general. He was always game for a good word search. Above all things, Dean enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his son, Dean A. Saylor, Jr. and wife Heather; grandchildren, Dean A. Saylor III and partner, Tony, Karl W. Tait, Brielle, Alianna, and Julia Saylor, and Samantha and Kristen Gingalewski. He is also survived by his great- grandchildren, Jessica Saylor and Bubba Waltemyer; a brother, Palmer Saylor; and sisters, Kathryn Grove, Bernice Markel, Diane Watson and Cindy Klopp. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Nelson, Kermit and Donald Saylor; and two sisters, Lucrettia Markle and Alma Hemphill.

A funeral service to honor Dean's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3 at The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Chaplain Fred Shilke officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday and will begin at 9 a.m. until the start of the service.

Interment to follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held at Victory Fire Company, 421 Wheaton St., York, immediately following interment. All family and friends are welcome!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the funeral home to help defray costs at this mournful time.
