Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1920s and 1930s. He played the position of pitcher with the Memphis Red Sox making his professional baseball debut with them in 1927. He was born one of six children as Cornelius Augustus to Andrew D. Augustus (1880-1949), and his wife Luella Murphy Augustus (1883-1969), in Guntown, Mississippi, on September 17, 1905. He was educated locally in elementary school and later pursued a professional baseball career. The 5'9" and 150lbs pitcher who threw left also played with the St. Louis Stars in 1937. His 162 Game Average consisted of 0 Wins, 23 Losses, .000 Win Percentage, 45 Games, 23 Games Started, 0 Games Finished, 0 Complete Games, 0 Saves, 151.0 Innings Pitched, 159 Runs, 136 Earned Runs, 181 Hits, 0 Homeruns, 136 Walks, 23 Strikeouts, 0 Wild Pitches, 0 Balks, 0 Hitters By Pitcher, 238 Batters Faced, 8.10 Earned Run Average or ERA, and 55 Adjusted Earned Run Average or ERA. After leaving his professional baseball career, he worked as a porter for a Pullman Railway Company Shop in St. Louis, Missouri, and was drafted during World War II, but he never served. He passed away in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 30, 1981, at the age of 75. Following his death, he was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hillsdale, Missouri. He was married to Leona B. Villar Augustus (1916-1992), with whom he had one child, a son named Cornelius Augustus Jr. (1937-1998). His wife Leona passed away in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on April 3, 1992, at the age of 75, and she was buried in Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His son Cornelius Jr. passed away in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on August 2, 1998, at the age of 60, and he was also buried in Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
