Livio's father died prior to his birth. He was then orphaned and would eventually even lose his brother as well. A maiden Aunt, his father's sister Maria, raised the boys.
His brother was Peter Carilli, he died as a child in Italy.
Livio was a stone mason, as was his father before him. They were born and raised in Rocasecca, Italy.
Livio immigrated to the United States via the Augusta Victoria which departed from Hamburg and arrived at Ellis Island on April 4, 1899. He was 23 years old.
