I. Buchanan was found [unreadable] … across the river from Butte City was found … There were no witnesses to his death, but it is not apparent that he met death from drowning on account of the position of his body. The supposition is that he dropped dead pitching forward into the water.
He had crossed the river in the early morning in a small boat with two buckets of tomatoes, had tied the boat and set the buckets on the bank; while engaged with doing this he was probably stricken with heart disease. The old man had been failing for some time and this gives credence to the supposition that death was from natural causes. Buchanan leaves no relatives so far as known and lived on a little place along the river, where he raised garden truck. His remains were buried in the A.O.U.W. cemetery.
