MARION - Gary Rapert, age 52, of 1030 Champagne Drive, passed away in the Riverside Methodist Hospital on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. He was born in Washington D.C. on January 27, 1956. His parents, whom survive, Kenneth O. "Joe" and Margaret "Peggy" Roberts Rapert reside in Springfield, Va. On December 12, 1981 in Columbus, OH, Gary married Debra Key who survives. He graduated from T.C. Williams High School of Alexandria, Va. in 1974 and in 1979 graduated from The Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, VA. A member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church, he was a worship assistant and served on the worship and music committees. Gary was also active with the senior choir and bell choir of his church. He served on the board of Goodwill Industries and was in the Columbus Symphony Choir. For 21 years he worked for the U.S. Dept. of Treasury. Following that, he was an accountant with Custom Professional Accounting, and most recently was Work Force Liason for the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce. A Marion resident for the past 18 years, Gary moved here from Columbus, OH.He is survived by his wife, Debra; one son, Ryan Rapert of Marion; two brothers, Mark (Doris) Rapert of Staunton, VA, and Kelly (Veronica) Rapert of Elizabethtown, TN.; a sister-in-law, Dr. Diane (Kevin) Armstrong of Cincinnati, OH; nieces and nephews, Jessica, Brittany, Jordan, and Bethany Rapert, Alyssa, and Steven Armstrong; Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Marion. The service will be conducted by Pastor Mark Schuring and Chaplin Daniel Kiger. Burial will follow at a later date. Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Music Fund at Emanuel Lutheran Church of Marion, Little People of America, or the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C.
