Actor, playwright and director. Known as one of the most significant actors in the Neapolitan and International comedy. Descending from a theatrical dynasty, son of Peppino De Filippo, he began to act in 1951 becoming in a short time a appreciated character. During his uninterrupted career he appeared in several films including "Filomena Marturano" (1951) by Eduardo De Filippo, "Lazzarella" (1957), "Anna di Brooklyn" (1958), "You're on Your Own" (1959) ), "In the Name of the Sovereign People" (1990). His vast theatrical repertoire, in addition to his own comedies and those of De Filippo-Scarpetta, includes authors such as Pirandello, Moliere and Gogol. He has also written and published some novels including "Il suicida", "Lo sgarro", "Pulcinella amore mio!", "il segreto di Pulcinella", "Buffo napoletano", "De Filippo & De Filippo", "Oje vita, Oje vita mia!", "La fortuna di nascere a Napoli", and the autobiography "Un cuore in palcoscenico". Luigi De Filippo has been awarded with various honors, and in 2011 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Parioli Theater in Rome. He died at the age of eighty-seven after brief illness.
