Viola F “Vi” Sandberg, 95, formerly of Lake Hallie, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at the Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls.

She was born Aug. 25, 1915, in La Crosse to Signe (Mathson) and Bernt Tenneson. She was raised in Blair and Hawley, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1933. She then graduated from Minneapolis Business College in 1937 and was then employed at The Prudential Insurance Company also in Minneapolis.

Viola married Frederick H. “Fred” Sandberg on Sept. 21, 1940, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They resided in Minneapolis, where she was employed at Standard Oil Company. They moved to Morris, Minn., where they resided until moving to Elk River, Minn. where she was employed at the Rural Electric Association. They resided in Red Wing, Minn., from 1958 where she was employed at Josten’s-Diploma Division and then at the Goodhue County Extension Office, until her retirement. She and her husband moved to Lake Hallie in 1979. She has been a resident of the Rutledge Home for the past eight years.

Viola was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.

Survivors include: a daughter Alice (George) Nash; a son Carl (Julie) Sandberg; three grandchildren, Anna Sandberg, Chad Sandberg and Jordan Kent; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Fred on Jan. 24, 2006; three sisters, Huldes Marcoux, Myrtle Akerhielm, Berdine Faneuf; and one brother Basil Tenneson.
