D. Irene Borders-Schenkel, 84, of Decatur, IL, was called home on Monday, April 9, 2018, in her residence.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2018, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Memorials may be made to DMH Hospice.

Irene was born September 15, 1933 at Neoga, IL, the daughter of Rev. Troy and Ethel Andrews. She married Stanley C. Borders on November 5, 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1993. She later married Ronald E. Schenkel on April 25, 1999.

Irene worked as a Certified Medical Assistant for over 30 years. She was fortunate to have worked for some of the best doctors in Decatur. Irene worked for Dr. William Requarth for 3 ½ years, Dr. Philip C. Lynch for 27 years, and Dr. Mary McGrath for 4 years. She loved her work and her patients.

Irene received her CMA in 1975. She was a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants, twice President of the Illinois Macon County Chapter, and Chairman of the State of Illinois continuing education program. Irene attended New Vision Urban Ministries.

She is survived by her husband Ronald; sons Jerry (Sandra) Borders of Clermont, FL, Gary (Annette) Borders of Mt. Zion, Mark (Leila) Borders of Franklin, TN; stepdaughter Rebbeca (Mike) Luchetti of Maryville, IL; 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; special niece Doris Jones of Effingham, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband , and sisters.

She leaves behind many friends and family. The family would like to give special thanks to the DMH Hospice staff for their loving care of Irene.
