Elroy G. Hegewald, age 86, of Hilbert, died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Willowdale Health & Rehab Center in New Holstein.

He was born August 4, 1928 in Portage County, son of the late Richard & Gladys (Fenske) Hegewald. Elroy served in the United States Army and following his discharge, he married Julitta M. See in 1954 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. He farmed in the Town of Chilton until his retirement at the age of 62 when he spent more time hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin up north.

He was a member of St. John Sacred Heart Parish in St. John, the Knights of Columbus, and the Stockbridge American Legion.

He is survived by his wife: Julitta; children: Roger Hegewald of Hilbert, Linda (Sam) Kopf of Chilton, Lori Hotveldt of Monroe, MI, Paula (Steve) Walters of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren with 2 more arriving soon; a brother: Harold (Audrey); 2 sisters: Rose Marie (Jim), Irene (Jackson “Jackie”); and sisters-in-law: Sharon & Diane. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his 2 brothers: Norman “Normie” & LaVerne (Phyllis).

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, December 26, 2014 at St. John Sacred Heart Parish in St. John with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Entombment will be in the Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc. Friends may call at the church from 8:30 am until 10:45 am on Friday, December 26, 2014.
