The Weekly Butte Record (Chico, CA), Saturday, March 3, 1883, pg 3 col 2: Death at Butte Meadows. The following letter was received at the Record office from J.E. Carter, postmaster at Butte Meadows: This morning (Sunday), at one o’clock, a man named A. Dyer died at the Sutton House of pneumonia, after an illness of seven days. He was a native of Calais, Maine, aged about 42 years. He formerly worked at the Bell mill and recently for Captain Morrison, but his last work was done for Barney Cusick at the new sawmill.
