John was the son of Michael & Mary Platner. John was a graduate of Barberton High School. He also earned his bachelors of science in chemistry from Heidelberg College and his Masters in organic chemistry from the University of Akron. John went on to work for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. He had various jobs with the company that took him and his family to Georgia, Texas & Ohio. He retired after 38 years. John served his country in WWII as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, serving in the Pacific Theater. John was an avid golfer and had proudly shot four holes in one. John was preceded in death by his wife Nora in 2002 and four sisters Mary, Gen, Jo & Frances. John had four children John, Tom, Jim & Kathleen.
