Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1964 to 1970), he played at the linebacker position in the American and National Football Leagues with the Oakland Raiders. Born William Walter Budness, he made his first impression on the football field at Chicopee High School in Massachusetts. He received a scholarship to play collegiately at Boston University and while with the Terriers, he achieved All-New England and All-East honors, as he established himself one of the program's all time best linebackers. Selected by the Oakland Raiders during the 4th round of the 1964 AFL Draft, he totaled 92 career regular season games. He was a component of a highly-effective linebacking core which also included Gus Otto, Bill Laskey and Dan Conners, who helped propel Oakland to the AFL Championship Title (1967), which culminated with an appearance in Super Bowl II (1968). Additionally, he displayed exceptional durability, as he only missed one game during a six year span (1965 to 1970). After retiring from football, he taught Physical Education. He was inducted into the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978.
