Born May 8, 1930 in the small mining town of Freeland, Pennsylvania, Irene was really a "Coal Miners Daughter" and proud to be one. She was also very proud of her Slovak heritage, her maiden name Palko, and her six siblings, two brothers and a sister who have passed away, survived by three sisters still close and many nieces and nephews. Irene was a parishioner of St. Columba Catholic Church in Serra Mesa since 1963 and a resident of San Diego since 1959. She spent a lot of time enjoying Balboa Park and the Zoo. She was a wonderful wife and mother who adored her husband Nick and daughter Sharon. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed.
