WINSTON-SALEM, NC ~ Larry “Leon” Handy, 85, formerly of Sandy Ridge, passed away, Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment will follow in Minnies Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Stuart, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of the daughter, Belinda Goard.

Leon was born on May 5, 1933, in Patrick County, to the late George Clinton and Ethel Rogers Handy. He was a member of Minnies Chapel Wesleyan Church and was formerly a self-employed carpenter. He loved hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include sons: Eugene Handy (Kristy), Frank Handy (Barbara), and Dale Handy; daughters: Mildrey Mabe (Ricky) and Belinda Goard (Mike); brother, Glenn Handy; and a sister, Vera Golden; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, 2150 NC Hwy 65, Reidsville, NC 27320.

Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
