George Bruce Handy, 70, of Moorefield Store Rd., Stuart, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Patrick County March 17, 1935 to the late Clinton and Ethel Rogers Handy. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Handy, and a brother, Clinton Handy.

He retired from the Carnation Milk Plant and United Elastic Corporation, and was a self-employed farmer. For over 20 years he coached the Virginia-Carolina Little League and the Colt League teams. He was a member of Critz Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Roark Handy of the home; two sons, Wendell Handy of Stuart and Timmy Handy of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Pauline H. Grady of Martinsville and Vera H. Golden of Mount Airy, N.C.; two brothers, Leon Handy of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Glen Handy of Ridgeway; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Howell Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Adam Woods officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Deatherage, Calvin Shockley, Bill Gunter, Sherman Hubbard, Charles Hylton and Karl Weiss.

Memorial contributions may be made to Patrick County Dixie Youth Baseball, c/o Barry Hutchens, 107 Mountain View Summit, Stuart, Va. 24171.
