Josiah was born in Greene County, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1837 and came to Columbia City Indiana about 1850.
Enlisted on 8/16/1862 as a Private.
On 8/16/1862 he mustered into "F" Co. IN 100th Infantry
He was Mustered Out on 6/8/1865 at Washington, DC.
Promotions: Corpl.
He remained in the Columbia City area until about 1870, during which time he fathered a son with Martha Walker, and Married his "first" wife Adessa Messer on Dec 27, 1866. He and Adessa and their son William H. moved to Iowa. On March 6, 1882 he married Eveline F Dunsmore, and in 1880 they were living in Knox, Indiana, where their son John Frederick was born. They returned to Iowa, where he died on March 6, 1882. Eveline was pregnant with daughter Edith Pearl at the time of his death.
