Fred enlisted into the Army at age 28, was a 1st Sgt. in WWI, ran a sawmill in France. Was a master sawfiler and worked his whole life in the sawmills.

Fred married Marion Florence Lewis on July 16, 1926 and is buried next to her. Fred had two twin daughters: Elizabeth Lewis Hamilton and Virginia Foster Long.
Fred lived to be 104.
