Elizabeth Jane “Libby” Lindsey O’Barr, 89, formerly of Jasper, AL, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side in Strawberry Plains, TN on April 14, 2018.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Brother-in-law, Rev. Willett Vess, and nephews, Rev. David Hall, Rev. Dan Whisner and Rev. John Whisner, will officiate.
“Libby” was a graduate of Walker County High School and the University of Alabama. She taught school in Walker County for over 40 years, beginning at Boldo School, and spending the majority of her teaching career at T.R. Simmons in Jasper. Libby was a dedicated Christian, who attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church and later Jasper First Church of the Nazarene. She was a studied Sunday school teacher, loving wife, nurturing mother and beloved grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Milton L. O’Barr; her parents, John and Maudie Lindsey; and siblings Carlton Lindsey, Jake Lindsey, Johnnie Brown, and Maudie Gosa.
She is survived by her two sons, Rod O’Barr (Kathy) of Strawberry Plains, TN and Ken O’Barr of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Shelly O’Barr of Knoxville, TN, and Kris O’Barr (Alison) of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Mary Nell Vess (Willett) of Liberty, SC and Irvon Roberson of Louisville, KY; as well as a host of dearly loved nieces and nephews.
