Stanley Duncan and another man were in the same field raking and bunching hay. When the team Mr. Burch was driving started to run, Stanley, in order to stop the runaways, left his team on the rake but knowing the machine was in gear realized his danger also, and his attempts were futile. Mr. Burch fell in front of the machine and was caught by some part, and instead of being run over, was dragged and terribly mangled by the wheels. It is thought he was killed almost instantly. As the running team dashed down the hill and across the field they hooked onto the rake. This frightened the other team and they started to run, both teams making for the road. The mowing machine is a wreck, the rake lacks a tongue, but the four horses came out without a scratch. Mr. Burch had made his home with Mrs. Barton for several years. He was not married. He leaves several nieces and nephews to mourn his tragic end. Funeral at Mrs. Luella Barton's, Thursday afternoon, at two o'clock. Burial at Millerton.
