Mrs. Helen Carey Lee affectionately known as Mother Dear was born in Vacherie, Louisiana to the union of Henry Carey and Claudia Ellis on June 18, 1919.

After a lengthy illness, Mother Dear entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in the loving presence of her adoring family.

Mother Dear graduated from McDonogh 35 Senior High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Xavier University of New Orleans, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Louisiana State University of New Orleans. She was a teacher at Florence J. Chester Elementary School for 28 years.

She was a faithful member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of New Orleans where she was active in numerous ministries and community outreach programs.

Mother Dear leaves to cherish with fond memories one child, Alfred Lee Jr; three grandchildren, Joy Lee Brown of Richardson Texas, Joel Lynwood Lee (Jameela) of Oak Creek, Wisconsin and Kevin Lee of Sauk Village, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her loving husband of 61 years, Alfred Lee Sr.; brother, Napoleon Carey Sr.; and granddaughter Lynette Renee Lee.
