Joseph D. Phegley, 88, Of Oran Passes Away

Chaffee, May 18.- Joseph D Phegley, 88 years old, a retired farmer, died at 12 o'clock Sunday night at his home on Oran. The father of 14 children, eight of whom survive, Mr Phegley had resided in the Oran community many years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist Church here with with Ernest Lee in charge. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery. The body was brought to the Bisplinghoff Funeral Home.
Born Sept 26, 1859 at Modock, III., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gibson Phegley. Joseph Don Phegley was married to Miss Nellie Carrigan of Red Bud, Ill. They moved to Missouri, settling first at Vanduser, where Mrs. Phegley died.
In 1900 he was married to Miss Harriet McCalahan, and they later moved to a farm near Oran, and five years ago moved into town.
Besides his wife, Mr. Phegley is survived by two sons, D. J. Phegley of Kennett and Wm. Phegley of Flint, Mich.; six daughters, Mrs. Annie Hosea of Oran, Mrs. Belle Newlin and Mrs. Clara Hunt of Flint, Mich., Miss Frances Phegley of Oran, Mrs. Mary Kira of Chaffee and Mrs. Angeline Kennedy of Bellville, Ill; two half-brothers, one half-sister, 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
