EASON, Hazel

Hazel Lillian Stewart Eason, 80, wife of the late David West Eason, Sr., died Thursday, March 10, 2005 in Mt. Pleasant, SC after a long illness.

Mrs. Eason was born on December 6, 1924, at Ft. Yates, North Dakota, daughter of Henry Aston Stewart and Blanche Edna Ferguson. She was raised on the Sioux Indian Reservation where her father worked for the Department of Indian Affairs. During World War II, Hazel was a Rosie the Riveter and served during the Korean War as a Navy WAVE in Charleston, SC, where she met her late husband. David & Hazel were married October 13, 1950, in Charleston and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before her husband's death.

Hazel actively gave to her church and community. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 54 years, Cub Scout leader, Brownie leader, PTA President, Substitute Teacher and Teacher of Special Needs Children in the public school system, Choir Member, and Church School Teacher.

Survivors include her three children, David W. Eason, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Donald E. Eason of Winter Haven, FL, Myra Eason Jones of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her six grandchildren, Matthew Eason, Ryan Eason, Kimberly Eason, Christine Starnes, Richard Bryant, Jonathan Jones: a great-grandchild, Tucker Starnes; a sister, Florence F. Inskeep of Littlerock, CA; and a brother, Lloyd H. Stewart of Caldwell, ID. Mrs. Eason was predeceased by her son, Daniel S. Eason.

Funeral services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Charleston, where Hazel was a member, on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred next to her husband in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens following the service. J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL will be directing services for the family. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
